When to use templates

You should consider using template contracts if instructing a lawyer or other appropriate professional would be too costly, taking into account the size and value of the matter to be documented.

Also, templates may be appropriate where the matter to be documented is straightforward, and there is nothing unusual about the matter.

When to avoid templates

In some circumstances template contracts should be avoided.

Where a matter is high value, we always recommend having a professional draft or at least review the legal documentation.

Similarly, if you think there is a reasonable likelihood that you may have to rely upon a contract in court, it is better to have legal advice before it is signed - not after!

Where a matter is complex or has unusual features, you are unlikely to be able to find a suitable template, and you will need professional-level drafting skills to produce an adequate document.
