Cease and desists letters
A "cease and desist letter" is a lawyer's letter demanding that the recipient stop doing something - for example, infringing intellectual property rights. In the domain name context, cease and desist letters will usually include a demand that the domain name be transferred to the trade mark owner. "Cease and desist" was originally American legal usage, but with the growth of the internet the phrase has been adopted internationally.
